Ponysona OC

    I decided to dig up an old relic of mine and draw it for you guys. It's the first thing I've had a passion to make in awhile. This is my old MLP: FiM OC self from when I was in middle school.

    My female brony friend, who I'll refer to as J, used to have many conversations on the nature of fandom and the horror of Mary-Sues, but when we were making this OC, an alicorn just seemed to fit for my personality. I tried to take every precaution to avoid making a Mary-Sue (that is, an overly extravagant/perfectly perfect character,) and I felt like if I put it on the internet, portraying myself as an alicorn would seem a bit narcissistic. Still, this guy came to be. I always called him Alex, never coming up with a pony-like name to fit in. Despite not having a proper name, I still had an origin and a purpose for him. 
    His purpose is simply to help Princess Luna with watching over everypony's dreams. Despite me wanting to call him an alicorn prince, he doesn't really have anything to rule over. As for his origin, I have two. The first could easily fit in to canon, as his existence is only in the dream world, so Luna dreamed him up to help herself out in her nightly job. The second origin sounds like the average fanfiction, because its an OTP of J and me: SombraXLuna ship. That's a fanfiction for another time, and by that, I mean I could never get around to writing it. So, for now, he only exists because of Luna's magics.
    When I was first drawing him back in 7th grade or something, I had a ton of lessons from J in pony drawing physiology. Some of our original directions with him were that 1) he'd wear a jacket like I did all the time, 2) he's not very gifted in the puberty department, and thus looks like a very young colt and the slightest bit feminine, and 3) he has a cute little tiny horn (which is a bit of a pull back on the magic aspect, again trying to avoid a Mary Sue). The original cutie mark I could best describe as the design on the hat of the video game character Klonoa. Not sure if the picture quality shoes it, but his eyes are blue, and always were.
    I made a few revisions from the original to this version. The cutie mark was changed, and now kinda shows the whole "dream" theme in a metaphorical kind of way. It shows an Earth-like planet with the moon around it, and a shadow that goes between the center of the Earth and moon. The shadow represents the small fraction of the planet that is actually dreaming at that point in time. The shadow also makes an arrow, pointing towards the "dreams" for the future. Also, the shadow makes an hourglass with the land, so more time and the future and stuff. A little complex, I know, but I think it's clever. (What do I know, though?) Alex the Alicorn here (wait, that works pretty well...) originally had dark brown hair and a blonde streak, but was changed to be just this honey golden brown, that J calls "the color of midnight snacks". (Midnight Snacks... Another possible name) Finally, his coat is orange. That's just the color that worked best.
    To describe his personality, he's basically that awkward kid in the corner of the classroom who is fascinated by everything and truly wants to share interests with people, but isn't that good at making friends. (Hey, Hasbro, episode plot right here.) He's a great person once you get to know him, and he has a fascination for all the arts, he just isn't really "great" at any of them. In short, he cares for other people, their dreams, and their ideas, he just is a bit too awkward for anybody to really get to know him. Kind of like the phase I was trying to grow out of in middle school... *deep, thoughtful stare into the distant sunset as a gentle breeze rolls by*
